1919 100 Years 2019
Welcome to the Arnside and Arnside Knott WI website

Being a member of the WI can offer friendship and fun, opportunities to learn new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to have a voice in campaigns on local, national and international issues that matter to you and your community. (Subscription April 2025 to March 2026 is £51)

Arnside & Arnside Knott WI main monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of the month, at 2 pm, in the Arnside WI and Village Hall, Orchard Road, Arnside LA5 0DP. As well as discussing WI matters, we have speakers on a range of interesting and varied topics. (Please see our programme) All are welcome. There is a small charge of £3 (which includes refreshments) for non-members and visitors.

In addition, we have informal meetings, at 2pm, on the fourth Monday of most months, when we get together for a chat, play games such as Rummicub and Scrabble, or be creative with crafts of your choice. It's an ideal opportunity to join us for a relaxed afternoon socialising and making new friends.

At main meetings members take part in a fund raising competition. Bring along up to 3 items relating to the subject of the talk (details in the programme) which are put on display. Members then vote by placing silver coins by their favourite items. Points are scored accordingly. At the end of the year there is an award, presented at the Christmas Party, for the person who has accumulated the most points. The funds raised this way go to support The Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW.org.uk)
As well as the two monthly meetings we offer a range of other social activities:- coach trips, cinema and theatre visits, coffee mornings, evening social events, dining out, craft and cooking activities, fund raising events and more.
We are affiliated to the National Federation of Women’s Institutes and the Cumbria-Westmorland Federation. The CWFWI organises classes and social events at their offices in Kendal, together with regular monthly groups for creative writers, embroiderers and painters. They also run tutor-led sessions for many other skills such as cookery and computing.

The CWFWI has a marquee at the annual Westmorland County Agricultural Show (held each year on the second Thursday in September) at the Show Ground at Crooklands. We usually take part in this and have often been very successful.

So, if you are new to the area or just fancy giving the WI a try, come along to either the more formal meeting with a speaker, or the informal afternoon, relax and enjoy yourself. It's a wonderful way to make new friends. We look forward to meeting you.
