Tea time
Shed 1 Afternoon tea - 27th September 2023
Well, that was fun! 14 intrepid members & friends braved torrential rain and the lottery of the Furness line to have a sociable, informative and very enjoyable gin-themed afternoon tea at the Shed 1 distillery in Ulverston.
A head count, whilst huddled in the shelter on the station in our bright macs, led to some quick thinking and an urgent call to Allyson who had a diary blip & was saved by her heroic husband who drove though rain and roadworks to deliver her safely to us. The real hero award though goes to Valerie who found a little gin and soft cake slipped down well despite the dentist.
Paul the taxi turned up on time at Ulverston and gave a lift to some whilst the rest of us splashed through the rain to a warm welcome from Zoe and the team, and of course gin and tonic.
The distillery was fascinating, the tea colourful, inventive and tasty, the venue sparkling with light and the warmth of friends together.
By the time we were ready to leave our taxi was back and the rain had [just about] stopped, so we walkers dodged the puddles to wend our way back to the station, carrying our purchases of gin and marmalade.
A thoroughly good afternoon was had by all.
Cheers

Time to go home
On May 22nd 2023 five of the WI members who volunteered to help create the 10,000 daffodils display at Lowther Castle went to view their, and everyone else's handywork. Set in gardens next to the renovated summer house the daffodils made a riotous display 'growing' alongside the natural grasses and wildflowers surrounding them.
On the 7th June 2023 we had a wonderful outing to the RHS Garden at Bridgewater. Glorious gardens set in historic landscape. Well worth a visit. Thank you Janet for organising everything.
